Type of wolf: Grey wolf, more specifically a tundra wolf

Appearance: He has a light grey undercoat with rusty brown and black outer fur, creating sort of a mottled appearance. Like other wolves of his species, Kurev is large, strong and has long hair. The skin and hair along his throat look a little deformed, but only marginally so. He is very average looking, except for some extra dark markings along the tip of his ears.

History: Kurev is a tundra wolf, born and raised near the Kamchatka peninsula of Russia. When he was younger, a little under two years of age, he got into a fight with another wolf. During the fight, his vocal cords were crushed and have never completely healed. As a result, he is unable to properly howl, growl, and talking is usually painful for him.

When the famine struck his pack, it splintered into two groups. One decided to stay in hopes that their primary source of food, the caribou, would return. The second group set out to find new sources of food and, like Talya, to lessen the burden on the pack of supporting so many wolves on what little fauna remained in their territory. Of the second group, Kurev is all that remains.

In their search for more abundant food, Kurev's group unwittingly crossed the Bering Strait and began roaming through Alaska and Canada. In their desperation, the few wolves remaining seized a small kill that a bear had dragged to shore, not noticing the return of the larger animal to feed. His pack-mates were killed, but with Talya's intervention he managed to escape without too many injuries. After they fled, the bear seemed content with the kills he had already made and left them alone.
